Learning Support Assistant (SEND & PMLD Support)

Position: SEND Learning Support Assistant (PMLD)

Location: Bordon, Hampshire

Salary: £15.00 per hour (supply rate)

Hours: 9.00-3.30 Monday to Friday, term time only

Contract Type: Full time, ongoing basis (Temp to Perm)

We are looking for an experienced and caring Learning Support Assistant who can provide tailored 1:1 or small group support, implementing individual education plans (IEPs) and assisting with personal care, communication (AAC, Makaton), and sensory activities for students with complex needs, focusing on well-being, independence, and achieving goals set by teachers and therapists.

Key duties involve implementing behaviour/care plans, using specialist equipment, recording progress, and ensuring safety while fostering dignity and positive emotional regulation.

Key Responsibilities

• Work closely with students with PMLD on their specific learning, communication, and physical goals

• Implement IEPs & Plans

• Assist with Personal Care: Help with hygiene, feeding, mobility, and welfare, always maintaining dignity

• Communication & Sensory Support: Use visual aids, AAC devices, Makaton, and sensory-based activities to aid learning

• Behaviour & Emotional Support: Help students with emotional regulation, transitions, and behaviour management

• Collaboration: Work with teachers, therapists (speech, OT, physio), parents, and the multi-disciplinary team

• Safety & Safeguarding

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience with SEND/PMLD or relevant care/support roles

• Patience, empathy, resilience, and flexibility

• Strong communication and teamwork skills

• Understanding of sensory needs, autism, and communication difficulties (or willingness to learn)
